Representatives from Mokum and James Dunlop were in New York City last month to greet the world at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF).
We presented our collaborative exhibition with local wallpaper designer Emma Hayes Textiles, lighting designer David Trubridge, and Wakanine as Design New Zealand.
For its 35th edition, ICFF brand directors Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat curated a refreshed version of the fair as part of the NYCxDESIGN festival, welcoming over 450 exhibitors from within the USA and internationally.

The Design New Zealand stand
Our Design New Zealand stand was open at all sides and defined by a hardwood floor, encouraging ease of access for visitors and engagement with all brands. Positioned near the fair’s rejuvenated dining spaces, the awards area, and WANTED, where emerging talents exhibit, the atmosphere at the edgier end of the fair was heightened.
David Trubridge’s Coral and hung lighting installations were eye-catching from a distance, alongside our tactile, seven-foot-tall screens upholstered in Mokum – including crowd favourite, the dynamic Panthera by Catherine Martin by Mokum – and James Dunlop. Nestled into the screens were upholstered ottomans, showcasing our high-performance textiles whilst functionally providing storage and seating.

Throughout the three days we interacted with members of the global design community on our Design New Zealand stand. Covering topics ranging from Mokum’s ever-evolving Catherine Martin relationship, the techniques behind Emma Haye’s hand-made wallpaper designs, and David Trubridge’s exploration of how the environment informs his creations.
“ICFF provided us and our partners with a fantastic opportunity to greet our clients where they are. The feedback we received from people active in the A&D community about our products and current trends in American design was invaluable. It was fabulous to meet so many designers who were attending the fair with specific projects in mind and the intention to discover new brands.”
