Characteristics of llama wool
Llamas are a member of the camelid family, hailing from the Bolivian Highlands they have played an important role in Bolivian culture and spiritual beliefs since the Incan Empire. Easily identified by their elegant stature, banana-shaped ears, straight back, and long neck, over 2.6 million llamas live in Bolivia today, of which 75% are coloured while the rest are white.
Mokum’s Lama Velvet palette encompasses 10 natural colours. Each is undyed – coming in the shade of the llama – and spun as a melange to ensure greater colour continuity from season to season.
The llama wool fibre offers superior insulation and breathability due to its hollow core. Allowing the fibre to breathe in warm weather conditions and offer thermal insulation in cold weather conditions.
Possessing a natural shine, Mokum’s Lama Velvet is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial with moisture-wicking properties which increase the textile’s water, stain, and fire resistance. Additionally, during tests for pilling Lama Velvet proved more resistant than many other natural fibres and achieved a robust Martindale score of 100,000 rubs.
76% llama wool, 14% cotton, 10% polyester
