Which stains can be removed from FibreGuard?
Which stains can be removed from FibreGuard?
All common household stains including red wine, blood, dirt, sticky fingerprints, hair care products, and oils.
Which kind of cloth should I use?
Which kind of cloth should I use?
It doesn’t matter what size or colour cloth you use, just that it is a real microfibre cloth. This is because the many fibres in a microfibre cloth work like millions of tiny fingers doing the hard work for you.
Which kind of soap should I use?
Which kind of soap should I use?
Any uncoloured household soap is fine to use in bar or liquid form. The ideal ratio is 20:80 soap to water.
How much water should I use?
How much water should I use?
Firstly – always use cold water rather than hot or warm.
Use as much water as it takes to remove the stain. Using plenty of water won’t damage your FibreGuard fabrics, however it will take longer to dry. We recommend using a spray bottle to mist the fabric rather than pouring water on directly, making the cleanup take longer and risking spreading the stain.
Don’t use any heating method, such as hair dryers, to speed up the drying process as the heat will damage the fabric.
How should I rub the stain?
How should I rub the stain?
Due to the crisscrossing structure of the yarns, rubbing gently in a circular movement ensures you clean the whole stain.
Gentle pressure is all that’s required. Rubbing harder will only smush the stain further into the structure of the fabric, making it harder to remove in the long run. Yes, ‘smush’ is the technical term.
Should I use a toothbrush?
Should I use a toothbrush?
No, all you need is water, a real microfibre cloth, and perhaps a small hard bar of white household soap to clean FibreGuard fabrics.
How long will the stain protection last?
How long will the stain protection last?
The FibreGuard solution is impregnated into the yarn itself during the yarn production process, ensuring a lifetime of stain on stain removal. As an inherent stain resistant construction, FibreGuard performs much better and lasts longer than topical stain treatments.
Why doesn’t FibreGuard repel liquids?
Why doesn’t FibreGuard repel liquids?
This was a product development decision to achieve the best possible handle and to retain the permeability of the fabric, so spills will not spread by running across the upholstery but are confined to a specific area. It’s also because of the addition of water during the cleaning process, which further breaks down stains and allows liquids to easily be blotted away.
Can stains seep through the fabric and into the foam?
Can stains seep through the fabric and into the foam?
Yes, this is possible. As FibreGuard is stain resistant instead of moisture resistant, the construction may allow moisture to travel through the weave during cleaning or when large spills occur. If you are concerned about moisture soaking through the fabric when spot cleaning, remove the cover and clean as directed (or machine wash at 30 degrees).
Our FibreGuard Pro and FibreGuard Outdoor ranges have a micro perforated (breathable), synthetic membrane or film on the back of the fabric, which creates an impermeable moisture barrier.
WHY IS THERE A WATERMARK ON THE FABRIC EVEN THOUGH IT’S DRY?
WHY IS THERE A WATERMARK ON THE FABRIC EVEN THOUGH IT’S DRY?
Soap residue can give the appearance of a watermark and is generally caused by the application of too much soap. Soap and water should generally be applied at a 20:80 ratio.
To minimise this risk, apply more water and dab off the excess to ensure the fabric is not left with excess soap residue on its surface, or machine wash the fabric (if removable) to dissolve the residual soap.
CAN FIBREGUARD FABRICS BE DRY- AND/OR STEAM- CLEANED?
CAN FIBREGUARD FABRICS BE DRY- AND/OR STEAM- CLEANED?
All specific cleaning instructions are on the website and the fabric sample information card. Steam cleaning is really a last resort and should only be done by an upholstery cleaning professional. FibreGuard fabrics can be machine washed at 30º.
How do you clean mildew stains?
How do you clean mildew stains?
Mildew is a product of a wet or moist environment, follow your cleaning instructions as standard guidelines. Endeavour to keep your fabric clean to reduce dirt and residual build up which will promote the growth of microbial and bacterial organisms.
Can I use bleach?
Can I use bleach?
Bleach is a very harmful product for the environment. While many competitors will proclaim the ability to use bleach on a fabric as an attribute, this is not eco-friendly and doesn’t align with our Oeko-Tex 100 certification. Although bleach whitens fabrics, it can also yellow some white fabrics. Applying bleach to a coloured fabric can be risky and is not recommended.
What does ‘environmentally friendly’ mean?

All FibreGuard fabrics are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, guaranteeing that our fabrics won’t release any harmful finishes or chemicals into your home and are safe for humans and pets.
WHAT IF A STAIN HAS BEEN ON THE FABRIC FOR QUITE A WHILE?
WHAT IF A STAIN HAS BEEN ON THE FABRIC FOR QUITE A WHILE?
FibreGuard protection is for accidental spills and marks that occur in our everyday life. It is always recommended to remove the stain as soon as possible for the easiest and best result. However, we recommend the same recommended cleaning method regardless the duration of the stain – hours, days, or even weeks later.
If stains are stubborn, repeat the soap and water cleaning method, taking your time to work on the affected area until the stain is removed. Of course, you can always machine wash if the fabric where the stain is located is removable.
CAN YOU ADD A TOPICAL TREATMENT TO FIBREGUARD FABRICS?
CAN YOU ADD A TOPICAL TREATMENT TO FIBREGUARD FABRICS?
No, you do not need to add topical treatments to FibreGuard fabrics. Aftermarket finishes are not permanent or environmentally safe and as they wear away, they can emit VOCS which are odourless, tasteless, and harmful to people and the environment.
Note - Application of an aftermarket treatment to a FibreGuard fabric will void the 5-year residential and 3-year commercial stain resistance warranty.
WHY DO YOU USE SOLUTION DYE POLYOLEFIN AND NOT SOLUTION DYED ACRYLIC FOR THE FIBREGUARD RANGE?
WHY DO YOU USE SOLUTION DYE POLYOLEFIN AND NOT SOLUTION DYED ACRYLIC FOR THE FIBREGUARD RANGE?
Although an excellent outdoor fibre, acrylic is limited in design options and yarn colour choices, it can also be price prohibitive.
Polyolefin has fewer limitations, with a better handle and less synthetic appearance. Polyolefin is naturally water repellent, dries faster, and is more eco-friendly due to its recyclability and less water being used during manufacturing. This is still a solution dyed yarn which provides extremely high UV light fastness. Additionally, our FibreGuard protection solution cannot impregnate into acrylic.
