Understanding triple weaves

A triple weave or dimout fabric is an advanced lining construction comprised of three tightly interwoven layers. The central layer is key to the structure, as black yarn is used to restrict the amount of light passing through the fabric.

Generally textured and soft to the touch, triple weaves are a practical drapery solution for either a face fabric or lining in both commercial and residential applications due to their affordability, washability, and acoustic properties.

Advantages of triple weaves

Using a triple weave either as a lining or stand-alone fabric will protect soft furnishings from fading, create a thermal insulation layer, resist dust and mildew, and improve acoustics.

Due to the thickness of the construction, triple weave linings appear more voluminous than other linings, enhancing the fullness of light weight curtains such as sheers and the finished look of the drapery.

A triple weave can also be digitally printed and used as a stand-alone drapery, offering an affordable option which doesn’t compromise design or functionality.

In contrast to triple weaves, ‘blackouts’ have an acrylic coating on the back. As the name suggests, blackouts completely block out the light, however, acrylic backing is generally coloured white or ivory.
