At James Dunlop Textiles, we offer a wide range of lining fabric options for residential and commercial settings.
Linings

Linings block the light and protect your curtain fabric and the fabric of your home interior furnishings and furniture while providing much needed heat and cold insulation throughout the year. Professionally made and installed, lined drapery can reduce window heat loss by 40-60% when closed, while also keeping out the harmful rays during summer. All year round, lined curtains are an important tool in creating a thermal insulation barrier while providing important light filtration.

Different types of lining fabric
Due to advancements in textile technology, we can offer a range of linings to serve your functional and aesthetic requirements. Explore the different types of linings below:
Thermal Lining Fabric
One layer of coated acrylic suede compound is known as thermal lining. It involves a thermal coating being applied directly to the reverse side of the fabric to reduce the amount of harmful ultraviolet light passing through the fabric, whilst increasing the insulation. It is important to understand that a certain amount of light will pass into the room with this construction.
Blackout Lining Fabric
Three layers of coated acrylic suede compound is known as ‘blackout’ thermal lining. This process offers the same benefits of thermal lining but also totally eliminates light penetration.
Dimout / Triple Weave Lining Fabric
Unlike the coated linings above, a dimout lining is a woven construction which allows a small amount of light to pass through – hence the name ‘dimout’ as opposed to ‘blackout.’ It is a popular lining in both commercial and residential applications due to its affordability, washability, soft drape, and noise reduction properties. Silicone Lining Fabric
Unlike acrylic suede linings, coated lining layers made of a silicone compound do not elicit or hold any loose dust. Silicone backed lining is a coated lining product with three layers of silicone on one side. This product is also washable, making it easier to maintain, and available in various colours.
Interlining Fabric
Interlining is a layer of fabric which adds body and fullness to lightweight fabrics such as silk and taffeta. Its composition is typically either a blend of polyester/viscose/cotton or 100% napped cotton.
